Mephisto is our flagship red cuvée, produced only in exceptional vintages. The blend varies from year to year, reflecting the character of each vintage while remaining firmly rooted in our vineyards on the Bisamberg.
The 2023 vintage is a blend of approximately 60% Zweigelt, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Zweigelt from old vines brings depth and structure, Merlot adds a generous, fleshy core, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides backbone and length.
Low yields, meticulous work in the vineyard and careful vinification allow the character of the Bisamberg and its distinctive microclimate to come through. The result is a wine of remarkable depth and harmony.
Powerful, round and silky, yet remarkably elegant. Ripe sour cherry and dark chocolate lead into a rich, concentrated palate with impressive depth and fine tannins. Complex and structured, Mephisto 2023 also has excellent ageing potential.
Taste profile: Enticing notes of sour cherry and dark chocolate, rich and succulent, with impressive depth. Powerful and broad-shouldered yet wonderfully soft and inviting.
