Weingut and Heuriger Christ are located in Wien-Jedlersdorf, at the foot of the Bisamberg in Vienna's 21st district. Rainer Christ runs the business.

The Winemaker

Rainer Christ holds on to traditional methods and at the same time tries out new ones.

The winery lies on the north-eastern edge of Vienna, in the historic village centre of Großjedlersdorf, on the slopes of the Bisamberg on the left bank of the Danube.

The Speciality

Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC

The Wiener Gemischter Satz is the speciality of this city. At least three white quality grape varieties grow together in the same vineyard, are harvested together and pressed together.

No variety may make up more than half of the vineyard, and the third largest must account for at least ten percent. The result is a wine that reflects the whole vineyard rather than a single variety.

In the Vineyard

Organic Viticulture

We work organically. Against fungal pressure we may use copper and sulphur, but not synthetic systemic agents or herbicides.

So organic does not mean no spraying at all, it means spraying differently.

In the Cellar

What grows in the vineyard is decided in the barrel

Every wine is accompanied through the months in the cellar and tasted again and again. Only when it tastes the way it should does it go into the bottle.

We bottle in our own cellar. All our wines are vegan.

The Heuriger

When the Heuriger is „ausg’steckt“, it is open. The right to serve one’s own wine without a tavern licence goes back to the circular decree of Emperor Joseph II from 1784.

The custom itself is older: even before that, the Buschen, a bundle of twigs hung outside the door, was the sign that wine was being poured.
