The gentleman from the primeval sea. Some grape varieties do not have to be loud to be noticed. Chardonnay is undoubtedly one of the noblest grape varieties in the world: a true gentleman in the glass. It is never loud, never shrill or intrusive. Instead, it captivates with timeless nobility, subtle elegance and a reliable depth that only reveals its true greatness in quiet.

This cosmopolitan finds its ideal home on calcareous terroir. On the Bisamberg this soil looks back into an unimaginably deep past: the high lime activity comes directly from the primeval Tethys Sea, which shaped this landscape millions of years ago. It is this fossil heritage that is made for producing wines of extraordinary tension, profound minerality and impressive ageing potential.

On the palate a fascinating, almost magical interplay unfolds. The wine enchants with a lively citrus freshness that at the same moment wraps itself in a finely melting, noble creaminess. A balancing act full of finesse that unites the primeval power of the sea with the refined restraint of a great classic.

At WEINGUT CHRIST in Wien-Jedlersdorf, Chardonnay covers about 10% of the vineyard area and grows on the south-facing slopes of the Bisamberg.

Chardonnay has its charms both as a young white wine with primary fruit and as a massively structured single-site wine of international stature, for it is a grape variety that always presents itself as elegant and timeless.

According to analyses by the Federal Office of Viticulture (Bundesamt für Weinbau), the histamine content is below 0.1 mg/l and therefore not detectable.
Contains sulphites.

Fruity with stone fruit, light on the finish, fresh, peppery, very drinkable.

The soil conditions are shaped by weathered flysch sandstone with high lime activity.
