Rainer Christ in the vineyard on the Bisamberg Rainer ChristWinemaker, Weingut Christ Body Mineral Fruit Elegant

The code of origin. „XXI“ is a liquid homage to a historic place. Its cryptic name is far more than a name: it is the subtle symbol that leads directly to the historic sites of the Bisamberg. Where Vienna's 21st district lies today, vines have been grown for thousands of years. As a quiet tribute to this historic origin, the number twenty-one was chosen in Roman numerals.

This wine draws its strength from the deepest layers of the past. The soils up here are exceptionally rich in clay minerals, iron and magnesium. It is this primeval mineral signature that gives the vines an unmistakable foundation. It brings monumental structure and a classic, deeply noble character into the glass.

In this historic setting, two of the noblest grape varieties in the world come together: 70 % velvety, profound Merlot merges with 30 % structuring, cool Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wine its proud backbone.

Such a monument cannot be rushed. The cuvée matures in careful stillness in wooden barrels for at least 30 months. To preserve the pure, unvarnished soul of this soil and the grapes completely, the wine is bottled without any fining and without sterile filtration. The result is a highly elegant, deeply moving wine full of character and grandeur.

A homage to the 21st district: focus on terroir! Exciting developments with powerful tannins.
Taste: powerful, rich in tannins, fruity

XXI, Roman numeral 21, stands for a wine that, detached from individual grape varieties, concentrates exclusively on the terroir of the Bisamberg in Vienna's 21st district.

Based on this idea, one of the original sites of the Bisamberg was chosen: the Ried Wiesthalen, where vines have been grown for around 3000 years. This vineyard, enthroned majestically high above Vienna, was recultivated and replanted with vines in 2002 after a break of around 20 years.

The wine, made from 70% Merlot and 30 % Cabernet Sauvignon, with impressive structure and silky tannins, matures in small barrels for around 24 months until it is bottled unfiltered.

Contains sulphites.

Deep dark ruby garnet with an opaque core, confit of dark berries, ethereal, some mint, silky tannins, delicate cassis and liquorice; structure and minerality in the long finish.

The vineyards lie on Vienna's Bisamberg. Flysch, a sandstone compressed over millions of years and rich in lime and minerals, shapes the soils and gives the wines nobility and elegant freshness.
